Dr. Robert Michaud, BA, DMV, MScOwner, veterinarian, clinical microbiologist
Dr. Michaud comes from St-Hyacinthe where he first studied classic humanities and obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Montréal in 1973, then went on to obtain his Master’s degree at the University of Guelph, specializing in microbiology. He then worked for several years as a microbiologist in research and diagnostic laboratories for Agriculture Canada. In 1995, he and Dr. Alida Jong opened Hôpital vétérinaire de la Montagne, where he provided home call services to Ontario and Québec. Dr. Michaud is currently licensed to practice and perform house call within Québec, and plays a very active role in the community as a volunteer in many veterinary and non-veterinary organizations. He has served for over 10 years as a director on the boards of the Queensway Carleton and Ottawa Grace hospitals. He is an amateur radio operator, enjoys sailing on his personal sailboat, and has an interest in history and genealogy. He and his wife (she died in October 2023, married for 48 years) have three sons and a cat named Crapo.

Dr. Nicola Jeffs, BSc, DVMAssociate Veterinarian
Dr. Jeffs has a BSc in Biology from the University of Guelph, and graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College (DVM) in 2014. She has special interest in rehabilitation, nutrition, and internal medicine. She has a cat named Taz and enjoys camping in Algonquin Park near her hometown of Pembroke, Ontario.

Dr. Nicola Jeffs was employed at Hôpital Vétérinaire de la Montagne from August 2014 to September 2017. Dr. Jeffs was an excellent veterinarian but has not been allowed to practice in Quebec since that time. She left because she couldn’t meet the requirements of the Office de la langue française du Québec (she failed the written test, but she spoke and understood the French language very well). It was understood that if she left our hospital, her clients could follow her. She has been working since October 2017 at Cumberland Veterinary Hospital, 3809 St. Joseph Blvd., Ottawa (Orléans), K4A 0Z8. Phone: 613-834-7233.

She helps with patient examination, surgical monitoring, discussing pet health with owners, performing tests, and taking care of animals. Her passion is helping animals, and she rescues stray or abandoned cats to vaccinate, sterilize, and treat for illness to find them permanent homes. She one day hopes to own a sustainable goat farm.
